Bass Matthew Soibelman has been praised for his “steadily resonant, rich and pleasing voice”. During his time as a young artist, he has performed with Pittsburgh Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Opera Memphis, and Palm Beach Opera, among others. He most recently performed Don Basilio in Central City Opera‘s Training Artist Performance of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, as well as The Inspector in the world premiere of Jennifer Higdon and Jerre Dye’s Woman with Eyes Closed.
This season, he returns to the Pittsburgh Opera Apprentice Artist Program, covering Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème, and performing the roles of The Abbot in Britten’s Curlew River, Potter’s Assistant, Party Guest, Technician, and French Priest in Spears’ Fellow Travelers, and Pistola in Verdi’s Falstaff.
Last season with Pittsburgh Opera, alongside the Higdon/Dye world premiere, he performed the role of Idreno in Haydn’s Armida, and Sciarrone in Puccini’s Tosca, as well as a multitude of community outreach performances.
He can also be heard on the soundtracks of Star Wars Episodes VII & VIII, as well as Transformers: The Last Knight.
